Six Benefits of Natural Cleaning Products
1. They are good for the environment
This one’s a given.
Did you know that the cleaning industry is secretly a very dirty business? When you buy a bench spray in a throwaway plastic bottle,90% of what you’re paying for is water. Yep, water. The same water you get for free from your kitchen tap.
The remaining 10% is your cleaning agent – often harmful chemicals that do no good for you or the environment.
By buying reusable bottles and scientifically formulated cleaning concentrate tablets, you’re reducing your carbon footprint (buy not paying to freight water around the world) and saving on plastic waste.
Win win!
2. You can save money by going eco

4. Your home is safer
Chemical based cleaning products are made from hazardous and toxic ingredients. A quick Google on the ingredients in your everyday chemical cleaning products makes for interesting reading. From Ammonium Hydroxide and 2-Hexoxyethanol
to Isopropanolamine– the list of chemicals that irritate skin, burn the eyes and cause respiratory issues is a little alarming.
In comparison, green cleaning products are non-corrosive and non-toxic. The natural ingredients that form the make-up of eco cleaning products are less harmful, use less resource to produce and don’t contain the toxic-yuck in chemical based cleaners.
Safer for you, safer for your family.
5. The products are (generally) cruelty-free
Plant based cleaning brands and products that work for the environment rather than against it are (generally speaking) cruelty free. Look out for a symbol or note on the product you're considering to ensure that it’s not tested on animals.
Did you know that the official cruelty free label only guarantees that the final product and ingredients are not tested on animals, but the product CAN still contain animal derived ingredients? Likewise, a product labelled vegan may not contain ingredients derived from animals, but could still have been tested on animals.
When you choose eco-cleaning brands, you’re more likely to find a product that ticks both the vegan and cruelty free boxes. And that’s good!
6. You'll be supporting brands who care
If a brand is taking the time to ensure that its product is good for the environment, better for the health of its consumers and made that natural ingredients that are vegan AND not tested on animals – you can be pretty sure you’re dollars are going towards a business with good morals.
Sustainable business is the way of the future, but brands joining the eco-cleaning movement are up against some hefty competition. There’s a lot of noise to cut through from traditional, and globally recognised, cleaning brands who don’t operate with the same moral compass.
It’s not as simple as marketing and sales. It’s education, awareness and the undoing decades of a misinformation(and lack of transparency) about what’s in our everyday household cleaning products.
When you make a good change in your cleaning ritual – you can be sure there’s a team of sustainably minded people sending you a virtual high-five and a very heartfelt thank you.
